Masai Mara gave us these crazy, unbelievable and hair raising experience in our very first visit. Call it beginner’s luck!
Right in front of our Land Cruiser were the Kings, the Queens and their cute cubs of the jungle. How can any story of living in the Masai Mara ever be complete without them! And what we witnessed over their meal was the complex hierarchy and power play of the jungle.
While “Lion’s Share” comes from the first right to food of the dominant male, we saw at close quarters how even the dominant lioness (leader of the hunting pack), after more than a decent wait, got a snarl from the “Boss” when she asked for her share of her hunt! Talk about male dominance, phew!
All thanks to our extraordinary hosts and Masai guides, we witnessed the tale of a feast and the power play of a big Lion Pride unfold some 6 feet away from us. Breakway Sampu Angare pride. Bully is this male lion, Layai is the dominant lioness, while the other two being Napono and Nentubui. This is Nat Geo playing out their best feed right before us! Truly unbelievable.
