Our Land Cruiser huddled amongst many more, all onlookers had their breath held, as the Mr and Mrs devoured their morning meal. The Mr. had his fill it seemed. He stood up and strolled away with a peculiar indifference, leaving the lady to relish the spoils.
There we were in the thick of Amboseli National Park. It felt almost intrusive, capturing the intimate details of a couple’s dining table! Yet one couldn’t look away. As minutes turned to hours, we watched in silence the play of the food chain. The wildebeest was, only moments ago, part of the great family at Amboseli. Minutes turned to hours as the lioness tore into the innards of the beast and lapped up till the last bite. A meal fit for royals indeed!
Yum yum, munch crunch!!
The king walked away, leaving his Mrs. to enjoy the remaining of a rather sumptuous breakfast. The lioness took over and how she relished it! She savoured every bit, devouring the meal with a focus that was both brutal and strangely magnificent to witness from the safety of our seats.
The horn of the wildebeest-that-was continued to stick out, every second reminding us of the brutal rules of Mother Nature. This is a necessity for survival surely. The drama of ‘survival of the fittest’ and ‘jungle rules’ continued to play out before us.
Ohh am loving it!!
