Picnic tables and chairs laid down in the wilderness. It’s an endless spread of the Savannah all around you. A perfect 360 degrees view of a grand nothingness all around you. Enjoy a yummy Bush Breakfast, as you watch the animals roam and graze at a lazy pace. Bushes far might have the games you set out to view.
There is a sort of ‘quiet magic’ in biting into your eggs while a herd of zebras trots past just a few hundred yards away. The wildebeests are but a few paces behind. You find yourself whispering, as if any loud noise might shatter the stillness of the morning air. And a chilly winter morning it was, our jackets and skull caps firmly in place. The coffee tastes so much better when the steam rises against the backdrop of an ancient acacia tree. Time stands still, leaving you alone with the pulse of the wild. No grandeur and comfort of a dining hall at any luxe resort could be a match for pristine, open-air theatre.
The day’s game drive ends in a sundowner, like no other you’ve ever experienced. Amidst the golden glow of the setting sun, in the midst of the Masai Mara, you sip your wine, bite into that cheese and pinch yourself “Is this really for true!” And all the while, some animal, somewhere, brays or lets out warning calls. “Beware” they say? We were awed that a vacation, away from luxury and room service, can even mean something as beautiful as this!
