The way to Lake Naivasha is beautiful and every turn, every nook has enough and more for your album. The view is simply awesome. And just in case, the Fog God decides to blanket the greens in a misty shroud, then that throws up a beauty of another kind. Driving through misty white into nothingness has me thinking of Darjeeling and those sudden mists making visibility near zero. Glimpses of passing greens and a fleeting view of Mount Longonot when the fog lifts reminds you “the journey is as meaningful as the destiny.”
And along the way comes The Great Rift Valley, the famous series of geographic trenches, approx 7000 km in length, running from Lebanon in Asia to Mozambique in South East Africa. A clear sky offers a view of Mount Longonot and it is breathtaking. Cast against the vast expanse of escarpments, mountains and the ever-present mist are the lively shacks showcasing masks, beads, animals made of soapstones, colourful shukas and other wares. A cheery Jambo livens up the environment wherever you go. Endearing in their talk, it would be difficult not to follow them to their cute shacks and you would inevitably land up buying a showpiece, a trinket, a mask and if nothing else, then one of those vibrant colourful shukas.
Some glimpses of our journey, the valley, the grand view…
