When a Pride of Girls Walks the Ramp

Our August 2023 visit to Masai Mara was special in more ways than one. I don’t know if we just got lucky, but the three safari-filled days were packed with viewings of the Kings and the Queens of the Savanna Bushlands. There seemed to be a lion or lioness almost everywhere. Sleeping, yawning, stretching, nibbling on each other’s ears…and even making a live kill!! Some even seemed to be smiling…you know, the kind of smile which comes after a satisfying tummy-filling meal, followed by sound sleep!

And then we chanced upon a whole gang of thirteen girls wake up from a pretty slumber, yawn, stretch, headbutt each other…and then walk the rough road elegantly towards the awed onlookers. Being the peak season, there were a whole bunch of eager eyes from across the world and a continuous click-click of cameras would reach your ears cutting through the sound of the wind in the open Savannah. No beauty pageant ramp show could even be a close competition to the casual walk of thirteen young lionesses under a clear blue African sky! A sight to behold indeed!

Here’s to celebrating the majestic cats across the world. And a glimpse into the daily lives of the Kings and Queens and those waiting in line for the throne at Masai Mara. This one was one memorable trip indeed! Don’t miss the Ramp Show…cheer for all our showstoppers 🙂

The Writer

A traveller through many a season
Have traversed roads, seen the close, the distant horizon
Some tucked-away dreams are my treasures
I delve into this trove when in distress or despair.
Don’t you too have a much-cherished list of “one-day-if”s
That distant dream, often far, but at times so within reach?
And then the day breaks and with it my fairy tale
Leaving behind the lovely feel of its happy trail.

This space is for those like me, so much yet unaccomplished,
To pen down some “what-if”s, those crazy wishes, some distant dreams.
Let our bedouin minds wander off all limitations
And the rush of the mountain stream wash away our inhibitions.
