One Day…

One day when the clouds took over and blocked the sun for good

And the girl’s eyes rolled down tears the size of cotton wool

The puppy whined all day, waiting to be picked up and cuddled

While the world surged ahead in its cruel pace, not wasting a breath on anyone’s struggle.

One day she sat thinking ‘this is it; my life has seen its last bend’

Had she moved that crucial inch away from everything happy and gay?

Why then did the red birds stop flocking in her garden for grains

And the last violet streak of rainbow hide again behind a cover of cloud and rain?

And while she sat musing and the puppy waited, whining

Waiting for a peek of the rainbow or an arm loving

In walks a lady and wipes her tears and picks up the loving puppy,

Smouldering them with kisses and cuddles, creating with her wand, everything happy.

She paused and smiled and brushed back her grey curls

Framing her soft face with a grace unmatched

And the kindest of eyes from behind frames as blue as the night

Smiled at the girl and hugged the puppy tight

God resides in small acts, a sudden hug, a kind look

A fresh cup of tea, a steaming bowl of homemade soup,

A pat on the back for an achievement small

Kindness makes each struggle easy, as we live our moments, enthralled.

The Writer

A traveller through many a season
Have traversed roads, seen the close, the distant horizon
Some tucked-away dreams are my treasures
I delve into this trove when in distress or despair.
Don’t you too have a much-cherished list of “one-day-if”s
That distant dream, often far, but at times so within reach?
And then the day breaks and with it my fairy tale
Leaving behind the lovely feel of its happy trail.

This space is for those like me, so much yet unaccomplished,
To pen down some “what-if”s, those crazy wishes, some distant dreams.
Let our bedouin minds wander off all limitations
And the rush of the mountain stream wash away our inhibitions.
